Enabling Independence
“At Indii we’re developing technology which improves smart home accessibility.
We’re developing products designed specifically with and for disabled people for whom existing solutions are unsuitable and those who often find technology overwhelming.”
Sophie
Our inspiration
Hi, we're Indii!
Inspired by family
“Hi, I’m Pete, the founder of Indii. 👋
In 2001 at the age of 8 my sister Sophie experienced a brain trauma which left her without the ability to see, speak or sit-up without assistance.
Over the years Sophie’s health has made improvements, but she still required 1:1 care on a daily basis. As her older brother I often wanted to find ways to improve her quality of life.
This purpose, supported by my background in engineering led me to develop Sofii.”
Sofii
Our solution
Sofii, the adaptable switch
Assistive smart home tech
The main limitation in the smart home is the input method.
In a world ruled by phone apps, quick and universal control is not a given.
Voice assistants have been a step in the right direction, but there are many scenarios where uses cannot, or do not want to, use their voice as a primary input method.
—
Assistive technology is often expensive and outdated.
Companies operating in in the assistive technology space excel in designing solutions with specific user requirements.
Unfortunately, to date most implementations of environmental control have been prohibitively expensive and limited both in scope and compatibility with other modern technology standards.
—
Introducing Sofii
Sofii is the adaptable switch for your smart home, combining the affordability and interoperability of the smart home with assistive technologies.
Sofii’s accessibility features include support for external adaptive switches, and audio-visual feedback.
—
Universal assistive technology
Sofii connects directly to mainstream smart home ecosystems from the likes of Apple, Amazon, Google and Samsung directly, without the need for an intermediary mobile device.
Sofii can also switch seamlessly to control Bluetooth devices, such as phones, tablets and laptops, replacing the need for multiple input devices.

Our approach
Whilst we are a technology company, we try to approach our goals from a customer mindset. Sofii, whilst revolutionary for some, will not appeal to all.
But we want to be able to enable those who are not keen to embrace technology to live with greater independence.
The Discover page is packed with useful information and resources that consider independence from a growing breadth of perspectives.
Sign up to our weekly Indii Picks email highlights the latest news and advancements.
Our Enabling Independence podcast showcases the stories of disabled people and allies of the disability community to encourage, educate and signpost.
We’re working behind the scenes on tools which will help practitioners and service providers to better prescribe enabling technologies to their clients and patients.
I write regularly about our future plans for Indii, and you can get all this sent directly to your inbox by signing up here, or checking out the archive over on the Discover page.
